Opportunities

You don’t have to be a science or tech genius to help out at KCMDL! But also, you could be and that’s great too. If you enjoy working with teens, learning new skills, and have an interest in robotics or podcasting, our volunteer program could be a great fit for you!

Volunteers are a crucial part of our organization, and we are so thankful of all the folks who share their time and talents with the Digital Media Lab. Our volunteer program is focuses primarily on three types of volunteers:

Professional Collaborators

Professional Collaborators serve as experts who work in an industry or field relevant to the KCDML mission of providing an experiential learning environment, technology and mentorship in the areas of audio engineering and robotics to support teen development as they make connections to future academic or professional opportunities. Professional Collaborators provide specialist knowledge to teens so that they can learn specific skills related to their digital and maker projects.

Associate Producers

Associate Producers are adults or college students who work in an industry or field relevant to the KCDML mission of providing an experiential learning environment, technology and mentorship in the areas of audio engineering and robotics to support teen development as they make connections to future academic or professional opportunities. Associate Producers provide some authoritative knowledge to teens so that they can better understand and learn specific skills related to their digital and maker projects. Associate Producers seek to support and collaborate with teens on their self-directed projects.

Project Supporters

Project Supporters develop mentoring relationships with teens, and strive to uphold the KCDML mission of providing an experiential learning environment, technology and mentorship in the areas of audio engineering and robotics to support teen development as they make connections to future academic or professional opportunities. Project Supporters do not necessarily possess scientific or technological skills, but rather provide caring encouragement to the teens with the understanding that learning requires a safe and supportive environment.

Corporate Volunteer Partners

Corporate Volunteer Partners are employees of corporations or organizations who work in an industry or field relevant to the KCDML mission of providing an experiential learning environment, technology and mentorship in the areas of audio engineering and robotics to support teen development as they make connections to future academic or professional opportunities. Corporate Volunteer Partners provide some authoritative knowledge and caring encouragement to teens so that they can better understand and learn specific skills related to their digital and maker projects. Corporate Volunteer Partners seek to support and collaborate as able with teens on their self-directed projects.
